The speedup is function and data dependent. It can be more than 10x in some cases. It can be slightly less than 1.0x (i.e., a slowdown) in some cases with non-aligned, small data sets. In average over thousands of test cases (including many cases where VIS instructions are not applicable), we saw 1.6x for the VIS version and 2.4x for the VIS2 version.
