We're going to upgrade one SunFire 280R machine to a customer, runnin Solaris 10. The running software is our Intranet Server bundle, containing a mix of Open Source and our softwares. Mainly it's a public machine doing also gateway for the internal LAN: - IPFilter FW / NAT - Squid - Cyrus IMAP - Postfix + Amavis + Spamassassin - Tomcat running 4 web applications - Apache running as a Proxy Pass to the needed web applications - Postgres as DB for web applications
I know how much performance gain I can have substituting the 280R machine with the v40. But I'm also considering the T2000 T1-4cores. What is the performance difference I should expect between the v40 and the T2000 for this kind of application? Should I choose v40 or T2000?
