We are using the vanilla kernel 2.6.26.3 . Here what happens when patching the kernel : linux-2.6.26.3$ patch -p1 --dry-run < ../perfmon-new-base-080729/perfmon-2.6.26.diff ... Reversed (or previously applied) patch detected! Assume -R? [n] Apply anyway? [n] y Hunk #1 FAILED at 1. File arch/x86/pci/k8-bus_64.c is not empty after patch, as expected 1 out of 1 hunk FAILED -- saving rejects to file arch/x86/pci/k8-bus_64.c.rej ... $ It looks like you are renaming/removing k8-bus_64.c which causes a conflict every time it is modified in the vanilla kernel.
