Thanks for your advice.
More concern. If I want to use pfmon tools, should I install PAPI and PAPI
patch into kernel source?
Sorry, I don’t understand completely needed packages about pfmon.
Could you advice or give me some opinions?

Dear all,
I try to install perfmon2 into kernel 2.6.18-53.1.6.el5-PAPI. My aim is
to collect L3 cache events on Barcelona (QC AMD Opteron 8356). I show
/proc/cpuinfo as below.
processor : 15
vendor_id : AuthenticAMD
cpu family : 16
model : 2
model name : Quad-Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 8356
stepping : 3
cpu MHz : 2300.096
cache size : 512 KB
...
Or do I have to use latest kernel combination?

* Kernel source 2.6.28-1
pfmon-3.8.tar.gz
libpfm-3.8.tar.gz
perfmon-new-base-090219.tar.gz
That configuration will work. I don't think the others will. If you have
a choice, I would not even bother and I would use the latest.
