Hello Godmar -- WRT Q6: AMD CodeAnalyst Performance Analyzer (tm) uses OProfile for data collection on Linux. We also make the source code for CodeAnalyst available.
As a team, we look to the Linux/open source community for OS-level profiling support. Robert Richter from AMD has contributed perfmon2 support for Instruction-Based Sampling (IBS). We are also putting back contributions into the OProfile code base. We have found that it is important for our end users to have standard profiling support in the kernel (i.e., no kernel patches). Thus, we always keep an eye on developing trends. I'll be happy to answer any additional questions about CodeAnalyst. Take care -- pj Paul Drongowski AMD CodeAnalyst Team -----Original Message----- From: Godmar Back [mailto:god...@gmail.com] Sent: Sunday, September 13, 2009 2:35 PM To: perfmon2-devel@lists.sourceforge.net Subject: [perfmon2] questions about perfmon2 Date: September 13, 2009 Stephane, I have a few questions about perfmon2. First off, I apologize for not having read the source code; I'm certain that the answers to at least some of these questions are contained in it. Still, it may be helpful to create a record online to help others better understand where perfmon2 stands at this point. ... Q6: Slides 32-34 list tools supporting perfmon2. Notably absent are the two major vendor tools Intel's VTune and AMD's Code Analyst. The former uses their own driver, and the latter relies on perfctr (to my knowledge). What is known about support for perfmon2 in these products? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Let Crystal Reports handle the reporting - Free Crystal Reports 2008 30-Day trial.
