Satish,
You need to use a much more recent version of the kernel and kernel patch to
get this to work. 2.6.18 is very old and likely won't work with libpfm and
pfmon. You can find the newer stuff on sourceforge... of course, newer kernels
(2.6.35) have a different patch and a tool called 'perf'.
