I assume you booted to this kernel as well as installing it, right?

You could check for the perfmon pseudo-files in, iirc, 
/proc/sys/kernel/perfmon.  If those are there, perfmon2 is installed and 
enabled.

If those are there, you might check /bin/dmesg for kernel log messages 
pertaining to perfmon.
