I think I installed libpfm-3.10 successfully, but I have no idea how to run the
examples, could you please tell me how to do this?

Are you sure you installed libpfm3-10 correctly? Run the examples in
libpfm3-10. I don't think 2.6.38 kernel still supports perfmon. Maybe you have
to try perf_events/perf.
