Hello,

Intel has released the Core microarchitecture PMU specification
as part of the new version of the IA-32 architecture manual vol 3.
Look in volume 3b, chapter 18.

There are a lot of improvements compared to P4. The PMU is closer
to that of CoreDuo with a good extensions such as 3 fixed counters
and improved useability of PEBS and BTS. Also important for perfmon
is the single start/stop register, single overflow status register.

You can find the document at:
        http://developer.intel.com/design/Pentium4/manuals/index_new.htm

Hopefully by next week, I'll release preliminary Core2 support for the kernel.
