I can see where you are coming from re: function fitting, however... I would 
ideally like to be able
to throw some other parameters into the system, i.e.
I want to be able to 'learn' interface throughput and
CPU load, i.e. does interface throughput suffer if
CPU load is high?

Are you aware of any good examples of this sort of
thing?
