G'day Perl Documenters, I recently stumbled across the pod-indexing wiki at http://pod-indexing.annocpan.org/ . Unfortunately, the page when I found it was a great big mass of spam[1], and digging back through previous revisions revealed that the spam layers are very, very deep.
I've repaired the wiki front-page by finding an old, unspammed copy of the front-page, with a revision number in the late teens. Unfortunately many public wikis are becoming unusable due to ever-present spambots, and I'd hate for the Pod Indexing wiki to go the same way. As such, I have a possible solution. I'm one of the administrators of perl.net.au , a freely accessible wiki to help the Perl community. While the initial foundation of PerlNet was to improve support for Perl in Australia and New Zealand, there's no reason that it can't be used for ANY Perl project. We've already had to deal with the problems of spamming, and have filters and bots in place to quickly detect and revert spam. There are a few other nice features, like links to CPAN being available in the mark-up language, and live changes via IRC and RSS. You can read more about PerlNet at http://perl.net.au/ and the FAQ at http://perl.net.au/wiki/PerlNet:Frequently_Asked_Questions . PerlNet is free, and requires that its content also be free. I would be very happy to host the current pod-indexing wiki as part of PerlNet. Our existing systems can easily keep control of the spam, which I hope will reduce the workload on pod-indexing members. I'm happy to assist in the movement of content, and any reindexing, tagging, or reformatting that is required. Of course, you're also welcome to use PerlNet in any way that assists you with any other documentation tasks, not just indexing. If you've got any questions, then please don't hesitate to get in touch with me on the list, or by direct e-mail. I also tend to hang out on #PerlNet on irc.freenode.net .
