semaphores

I am studying Stevens' IPC book.  Does anyone know the pros & cons of
SysV vs. POSIX semaphores?  I see that POSIX semaphores are "newer" than
SysV.  My solaris 2.6 box supports both styles.  Does linux express a
preference?
