I was actually able to do the make in 100 Mb.  I also temporarily
mounted a 2 Gb HFS at /tmp after I ran out of space in the TFS.  I guess
I could have increased the region on the OMVS proc instead.

On the make test I did get the EDC5129I error, even after I put in the
symbolic link as recommended in the thread on the subject.

perl itself seems to be working, however.  Thanks for your help.

We usually built with a 2G region - but that was in a
software production environment with lots of C++ compilation
that soaked up more memory than the linking of bits of perl.
