Many thanks for your reply but the patch for the 'make depend' step is no longer an issue because once this patch has been applied the make depend completes successfully. I'm sure that I got a compilation error for perly.c even if I didn't apply the patch. The issue that I need to resolve is the C compilation error during the compilation of perly.c in the 'make step'.
