A small IBM team is investigating providing Perl as a feature on z/OS unix supported in the same manner as OpenSSH. To support this research, we are working on providing fully functional versions of Perl at the 8.5.6 and then the 8.5.7 level. We are interested in conducting an alpha test of sorts with an initially limited set of interested parties (but gradually opened up to as many as we can handle). Note that these "alpha" versions would NOT BE OFFICIALLY SUPPORTED BY IBM and so there would be no warrantees or support for Perl by IBM service, however, our intent is to make every effort to address and resolve all questions and problems during the period of this test. Should this lead to Perl becoming a feature on z/OS, we would later be seeking candidates for a formal Beta test.
