Other than the fact that CPAN used to assume that `make` was always 
involved and doesn't auto-upgrade, exactly how is Module::Build a pain?

Well, trying really hard without reading the instructions often leads to 
frustration.

It would be nice if CPANPLUS didn't insist on pretending that 
Module::Build doesn't exist.  Note that it is quite aware that things 
are about to go wrong.
