Indeed. The list does look reasonable though and if there is a
'pre-release alpha/beta' where people are told that it's primary purpose
is proof of concept and fine tuning it might not be that traumatic.

True, but I think getting a build going would at least begin to address
the issues and problems that will arise with packaging on the multitude of
platforms. I'm not suggesting we throw caution and thoughtful reflection
to the wind but that moving a bit more towards the production phase may
make things come together more quickly and practically.
