maybe this manual means stuff like "-r" "-s" "-x" with "file functions" ??? Just an idea: Is the "exception in the "seek"-line ? I have quickly consulted my perl "nutshell" and there I read that "Seek" returns "0" at the beginning of the file Without knowing more around the rest of the program it is possible that this is the problem.
