This is no problem -- I do that in Windows all the time.
Just run
         tlist Eudora

I can actually have multiple copies of Eudora (for different users) 
simultaneously open, and can determine whether a particular one is running.
Just look at the tlist output.

If no Eudora is running, "tlist eudora" returns no output.
