You can use UNC paths to open a file in Perl.
For example:

open(INFILE,"\\\\myserver\\myshare\\myfile.txt")
while(<INFILE>){
        do something...;
}

Subject: Reading the contents of a remote file?

Does anyone know how to read the contents of a file that is not on your
local machine?

Can you open remote file handles for reading?
