When you hide the window, also disable it.  When you want to make the
window usable again, enable it and show it.  This will make the
whatever-it-is-you-call-it disappear from the task bar while it is
minimized, but appear when the window is visible.

If you never want it to appear, make a parent window for your current
main window, and then eliminate the parent window.  Then you never get a
whatever-it-is-you-call-it in the task bar whether the window is
minimized or not.
