Johan, I'm not quite sure who that question was aimed at, but as I first mentioned that I had reinvented that particular wheel, then perhaps I should answer. No, I hadn't tried it. I must have seen that post, but I had forgotten about it. I'll give it a shot.
>From time to time on the list, someone will be looking for a particular functionality and another kind soul will often provide an example or module to provide it. I think there is a reluctance to build these into the core module, but what about having a centralised repository for these auxiliary modules? Could this be on SourceForge? I know CPAN exists for that purpose, but PPMs are so much easier to use, especially as all Win32-GUI applications are Windows-based. Some examples of this kind of module are: - Generic input box - Automatic resizer - Splashscreen - Cancellable progress bar - Visual GUI editor On a related note, every now and then, what appears to be a ground-moving module will appear. These include GUI Loft, XML Builder and niPerl. Am I right in thinking that there isn't a high adoption rate amongst the heavy users of Win32-GUI? Do you know why this would be? I have tinkered with them, but find that they want to change the way I work, whereas I look for tools to enhance the way *I* work. I'm not suggesting that you guys have any kind of obligation to get people to use your modules, but as you've been so kind as to make this code public, I'm sure it would be satisfying to see a more general adoption. Would a little more propaganda help? I couldn't help thinking that XML Builder was a Really Good Idea, but why should I use it? And could these modules be split even further to allow people that don't want to use a new programming framework to take advantage of parts of them? Just some thoughts for the last day of the year! Any comments from the big guns? I could fix it up and release Threads::Task on CPAN if it sounds useful. /J ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
