Not recommended: add your attributes to the object's hash.
$object->{-parent} = $whatever;
Recommended: Use the UserData() method - this is exactly what this
method is intended for:
$object->UserData($whatever); # store scalar with object
my $w = $object->UserData(); # retrieve previously stored scalar
