I come from the unix world too, but Win32 is such a nice toy system 
with PERL that I find myself coding quite a bit on it.

give Win32::GUItest a shot you can get it at:
  http://search.cpan.org/~erngui/Win32-GuiTest-1.3/GuiTest.pm
It might do your trick.
