I'd love to be able to write an application in Perl with a front-end, that I could compile for Windows clients.
The situation is, I'm currently writing an e-commerce project which will run on linux boxes, for this e-commerce site software needs to be distributed to the masses, to run on their linux boxes. Chances are they are going to be useless as far as computers are concerned. If I could use perl then it needs to be straightforward for the end-user to install (which won't be me), and have a GUI. Of course I'd like to develop in linux then port across at the last minute (one desktop rather than two desktops on one small desk!). So my requirements would be. - something which I can package as an Installsheild pacakge, so it can have as many supporting DLL's, and other software providing it can be installed without user intervention from my package. - must be distributable without paying huge amounts of money to people (the software will be GPL'd). I've read elsewhere that Activestate would charge me so I'd probably have to grab a different version of perl. - must have a GUI! - although I'm tempted to go down a text-based method!
