For filesystem-io you may be able to write a short sub that writes to a file and another that reads and then use Benchmark to exersize each 100000 times or so.
As for ethernet, are you looking to generate load, or do you just want to know stats about how it is performing. If stats, you may be able to use Net::SNMP and pull the relavent info from a router or switch on the network.
