Hugh, you have no idea what you are talking about! :) :) :)

You have to get an export permission for each customer for each release
of the product. We did this once for a big enterprise customer who paid
for all the paperwork, which included several sessions of a hired lawyer
in Ottawa with the government. It was quite time consuming and
expensive. If that same customer wants a new release then we have to
apply for another permit.

We know about the exemption of open source software, but there are several
problems with that too.  It is kind of pointless turning this into a long
discussion though: Once a company has hired a lawyer who said: "There are
legal issues", there is no way some discussion on a mailing list will
convince company management that there is no problem. :)

We are continuing to evaluate this issue, but it is unfortunately much
more complex and illogical than one would think.
