The above is in Finnish. Which reminds me, I took a look at the Perl 1
man pages and source code the other day at:
<http://dev.perl.org/perl1/dist/>
and was delighted to find out that even V1 was recognizably Perl with a
lot of the same basic scalar, hash and array functions we have today. A
quick glance of the source revealed that it is quite readable to a
relative C newbie, too, or at least the bits I examined were. 

Ah, I've only been using Perl since 5.8 myself for about two years now.
I do program almost exclusively in Perl mostly recreationally. It is a
great lang for the file processing and text parsing I routinely do, as
well as easy Win32 programming thanks to all the wonderful modules in
the Win32::* namespace and the ease of use of PPM.
