Defining symbols

Hi,

Let's say that I have an XS module, and that I want to define the symbol 
'WIN32' (at the preprocess stage) iff the module is being built on a 
Win32 machine.

How do I do that ? Is it something that gets addressed by the XS code ? 
Or is it something that needs to be addressed by makemaker ?
