We are currently searching for an experienced Developer to support one of our clients at the National Institutes of Health. This opportunity is permanent, full-time, and on site in Bethesda/Rockville, MD.
Our client requires the services of a full-time Programmer/Developer with strong programming abilities to include adherence to standard software engineering and documentation practices. Job Duties: The successful candidate will be responsible for the following: Develop semi-automatic indexing of biomedical text (including extension of MTI input to the full text of articles). Apply Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Statistical or Machine Learning (ML) methodologies to improve the performance of the basic MTI indexing methodologies (including a word sense disambiguation effort). Perform semi-annual maintenance to data files associated with Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) knowledge sources and the NLM's indexing vocabulary. Create and maintain software tools, both for operational use and for technology transfer of Indexing Initiative applications The following skills are required: * Min. MS in Computer Science or related technical discipline such as information science. * 2 (two) years of experience with PERL, Java, Prolog, and C. * Candidate must be familiar with the Unix/Linux development environment. * The successful candidate should have a strong interest in one or more of the following: * Indexing methods * NLP or text processing, * Information retrieval. The following skills are desired: Knowledge and experience with database systems and UMLS and MeSH are desired.
