An aside on the whole "affect" vs. "effect" thing...

In fact, both words have both a verb and a noun sense.

Affect as a verb means to influence or change.
Effect as a verb means to bring about.

Affect as a noun means a feeling or emotion.
Effect as a noun means a result or influence.

Affect has the accent on the second syllable when it's a verb, but the
first syllable when it's a noun.

(Also, one definition of the verb affect is "to effect a change". :)
