Is there no volunteer to roll a new IO-X.XX.tar.gz? That would resolve
the issue in the way that has been considered the superior around 2002

I will do it in the new few days. The reason I had not before was because
so many changes in the core depend on >= 5.6.1, but I will just add that
as a restriction to IO-1.21
