I wonder if it matters what current perl version you are using? Also what VC++ and Service Pack are you using as well as your OS.
Here is mine... Windows 2000 Professional SP2 ActivePerl 5.6.1 VC++ 6.0 Enterprise SP5 It might not be any of the above, but I thought lets eliminate all other "might be" before going deeper.
