You sure about that?  I've got an rx_compile op slotted in--would that
be appropriate?

FWIW, I think that regexes are probably too specialized to be treated as
Just Another Language.  Moreover, I suspect that individual languages
might want to compile their own regexes--for example, Java allows *+, ++
and ?+, which are greedy and don't backtrack.
