My charming woman,

I'm at Bergen airport. Just learned that my flight is delayed two
hours, so I'm sitting down to write to you. It may not surprise you
that my mood is largely unaffected by the delay -- in fact, it got a
little better for some reason. My setup is somewhat improvised: I'm
reading your email off my mobile phone -- where I cached it before
leaving the hotel so that I could read it on the airport bus -- but
writing on the laptop because it has a comfortable keyboard and is
fully charged. Naturally the airport is not generous enough to offer
(free) wifi connection. That doesn't stop me from writing to you and
posting the email when I get home, though.

Teaching has gone well. This may be the most knowledgeable group of
individuals I've ever taught this course to. During much of the two
days, they were nodding and obviously following along, or raising
their hands when I asked if they had some prior experience with the
things we were going through. I wonder if they were just an
exceptionally skilled group, or whether Norwegian programmers are
better than Swedish ones, on average.

I taught the course in Swedish. Did not expect that -- was totally
prepared to do it in English. But when I asked yesterday morning, they
said "no, it's OK, you go ahead and deliver the course in Swedish".
Apparently, this generation of Norwegians has been watching even more
Swedish TV than I had been watching Norwegian TV. :) Sometimes I had
to ask them to repeat their questions, but it really wasn't so bad.

After the course finished today, I did take the funicular up the
mountain. Which means I have some nice photos of Bergen for you. I'll
try and post them tomorrow. Then I walked back down; a nice walk. Only
35 minutes, but you would have protested before it was over, I
believe. :) My calves could feel the steep slope a bit.

They just explained on the PA system why the plane was delayed two
hours. I listened to the reasons, then promptly forgot about them.
There were three reasons. :)

I'm not sure the comment about "steak and blowjob day" was directed at
me. We were just entering the elevator, me and two participants and a
hotel employee. Note: four guys. I had just noticed, aloud, that it
was Pi Day. One of the participants pointed out that it was also Steak
and Blowjob Day, which happens exactly one hour after Valentines Day.
I'm not sure if he was telling me or the other participant. And yes,
it's a slightly risqué thing to say, but the fact that we were all men
in an elevator probably made it safe; a shared smile between guys.

I also mentioned Steak and Blowjob Day to jnthn yesterday. He replied
saying that steak is occasionally nice. I wanted to come to the
defense of blowjobs -- which in my limited experience can definitely
be enjoyable -- but I looked at the conversation and decided not to.
jnthn has never said that he's a virgin, but I would be surprised to
learn he isn't.

I'm not surprised you didn't find any porn with real virgins. In the
video I found, the girl was so apprehensive that I suddenly realized
that everything else I had seen containing virgins was an act. Heh,
maybe the girls in the romance novels had lovers who were not only
patient, but experienced as well. But I agree about your description:
a moment of pain, and then pleasure. It's found in erotic fiction and
movies as well.

Mom has a story about me going to swimming school when I was quite
young, and then turning back at the edge of the water. She didn't
force me, even though we came all the way to swimming school just for
that. Meanwhile, my neighbor and good friend Richard was forced to
enter the water by his mom. (I have no memory of that day myself, but
mom Susanne has told me a few times.)

In 2nd grade, in the fall term, there was mandatory swimming
instruction. The kids who couldn't swim yet rode a minibus from Tvet
(where my school was) to Ellös (a township large enough to have a
swimming facility) every Tuesday morning. We had to skip math to go
swimming. As the weeks passed, more and more kids learned to swim and
fewer and fewer rode the bus to Ellös. I was the last one (or maybe
one of two remaining) who learned to swim. Mom once said she thought
that I deliberately learned slowly because I enjoyed going to the
swimming facility more than I enjoyed the math class. But I honestly
don't think so -- I think it just took me a while to learn. Anyway,
ever since then I have enjoyed swimming. I can swim non-stop for 90
minutes without trouble.

I agree that bodies touching in the water is kind of sexy. Now that I
understand your motives, I don't think that a public swimming facility
is the best place for that. Maybe we can find a nice hotel room
somewhere with a big jaccuzzi in the bathroom. Then we can fill it
with hot water, and take our time to enjoy ourselves. I can imagine
sex in a jaccuzzi is pleasant, because of the jets, and because the
water provides some lift.

Ok, I will read "Water margin". Dear, I didn't know at all about "The
Journey to the West" being about the struggle between Taoism and
Buddhism. Thanks for explaining this. :) I forgot to say that Göran
Malmquist is the teacher of my teacher. When I looked him up on
Wikipedia, I was surprised to learn that he is still alive. I also
*think* (but I'm not completely sure) that Göran Malmquist studied
under Karlgren, a famous sinologist from the early 20th century.

I'm glad pappa Peter is still running Linux, several years later. I do
think he's happier with it than he would've been with Windows,
although he sometimes comes to me with complaints, large or small.
Anyway, I do have a better chance to help him as long as he's running
Linux and not Windows. Sometimes it's a reason for us to talk to each
other on the phone. :) I hope that Linux systems will be predominant
in our household. If you will allow it, I will turn you into a real
Open Source girl. You don't have to be a coder, but running Open
Source still has many advantages.

China is not the only country fighting drugs with harsh punishment.
The U.S. is another example; they call it "The War on Drugs". I think
it makes sense to try to reduce drugs in society, but I also think
spending too much money on it is wrong. Something like one person in
seven in the U.S. are in prison, much because of this silly war on
drugs. It would be better if they focused on the heavy drugs and left
the mild drugs, or if they focused on the trafficers and left the drug
users alone. But yes, I agree with you that drug usage can be a big
problem sometimes. Oh, by the way, the only reason we don't think of
alcohol and tobacco as drugs to be banned, is that they are old
enough.

Did you know that David Tennant is doing Shakespeare plays? I got an
email from the Royal Shakespeare Company about Richard II, in which he
will appear in October. I think I knew that he was a thespian, but I
hadn't thought of the possibility of actually going to London to watch
him. Wouldn't that be kinda cool, going to a Shakespeare play in
London, with Dr Dwo as the main character? :) I must say I'm tempted.

I think I felt that the faces of the girls in that café weren't
typically Chinese. They looked like they were from further south to
me. But maybe you're right, maybe they were from 海南. I'm pretty sure
it was Mandarin they were speaking, even if it was perhaps slightly
accented.

Wow, four hours of Swedish. Kudos on your diligence. I know that jnthn
doesn't make the Swedish "r" at all. He complained a week or so ago
that he can't make the Russian "r". And that one is the same as the
Swedish one.

You're very cute when you write "Katten är very cute"! :D I think you
will enjoy jnthn's company, he also mixes languages like that. In
fact, his brain seems to be built to mix languages and to find puns
between them. Mine isn't – it insists on keeping stuff separate in
their respective compartments.

I think you are right about the future. There will be unforeseen
challenges and crises we would prefer not to have. Let's invest
together in our happiness, and make sure we take time for each other.
I want family to come before work, and I want to be reminded of this
when I forget. We have much to look forward to together.

I'm stowing away the computer to conserve batteries. Going back to
reading on the iPad. It's still 40 minutes before the plane departs. I
will not be home before midnight.

...and now I'm home. The plane got delayed one more hour before it
lifted. Still in a good mood. But now I need sleep, urgently. Close to
02:30 here.

Time for bed. See you at your-evening-my-noon tomorrow, dearest. I
love you. Hugs and kisses.

Yours,
Carl
