Parrot's loadlib directive normally looks in 
$prefix/lib/parrot/<version>/dynext,
so I'm not exactly sure what the problem is here.  I doubt it's looking only
in /usr/lib and /usr/local/lib, as you suggest.  Something else must be at
play here.

OOC, what version of Parrot is listed in the /build/jamesb/local/lib/parrot ?

Also, is there any chance that there's another Parrot installed somewhere on
the system?  Perhaps the perl6 binary is finding/loading that one by mistake.
