Looks like this issue has been handled and fixed in Parrot for some time: https://github.com/parrot/parrot/issues/860 and https://github.com/parrot/parrot/issues/861.
Since the Parrot issues are closed I'm closing this ticket as well. (Hope that's okay, otherwise please reopen.)
