Today, for the second month in a row, I downloaded the Rakudo Star
tarball from github and built Perl 6. I built it following the
instructions in the README exactly, with the result that in my top-
level directory I have this:

[li11-226:rakudo-star-2010.08] 502 $ ll
total 14452
-rw-r--r-- 1 jimk jimk 6633 Aug 25 09:17 Configure.pl

drwxr-xr-x 8 jimk jimk 1024 Aug 26 18:56 rakudo

Of note: (a) the perl6 executable gets built in the top-level
directory; (b) I have a full Parrot checkout and build under
parrot-2.7.0; (c) I have *another* perl6 executable under rakudo/ ...
plus a whole lot more:

... and (d) a lot more under install/.

Do I need all this if my only wish is to *use* and *learn* Perl 6 via
Rakudo Star -- as distinct from *hacking* on Rakudo Perl?

I doubt it. And since pushes my usage on this disk up to 95% -- the
same disk I use to do a lot of testing of Parrot branches -- I would
*really* like to know how much of this stuff under rakudo-
star-2010.08/ and still have a fully functional perl6.

And if the Rakudo team is serious about disk space issues, I think it
would be a great idea if instructions on how to trim your disk space
were either included in the README or in a file pointed to via the
README.

After all, we do not all have well-endowed disks.

Thank you very much.
