As a side note: One of the downsides to having such discussions on
#parrot is that they are not archived. They are hence invisible except to
those few who were actually logged in at the time. They are not otherwise
availble. There is no way to search or go back and review.

about this same issue on win32. we haven't found the root cause yet,
and it is difficult to diagnose. some progress has been made on other
memory leaks in parrot, which should make finding this one at least
*marginally* easier.
