Hi Sawyer! Let me tell you, you are not “geographically-impaired”. Politically, this is a very bad phrase! You are “geographically-challenged”. This is PC OK!
BTW, how are you settling in? Anyway, good to hear that you are still interested in us! Thanks! On one hand you want to answer them, but on the other hand you want to educate them on searching the documentation. The specific example you gave probably isn't in this exact bracket, because it's a very very specific question. I mean questions like "how do I create objects in Perl" or "what does this function do?" - which are very common, and get the same RTFM responses. Erez said he would gladly do the talk again in the next TA.pm/Israel.pm meeting. However, one needs to organize it. Is anyone volunteering? Shmuel, I'm sure the slides are somewhere, so anyone geographically-impaired (as I am myself now) would enjoy them. (at least @$work) But sadly, some of the more active people there always send users to the manual, even when the manual does not contain the answer. They just can't give a short, helpful answer. it always make me angry. Latest example: user: whats the difference of 'int' and 'POSIX::floor' ? popl: perldoc -f int will tell you <it does not. at least not clearly and not without opening POSIX documentation to compare> <popl goes on and rants> me: for negative numbers, int(-5.5) is -5, while floor(-5.5) is -6 user: thanks! And the same happens every. single. time. uffff! People, if you can't handle giving simple answers, get off #perl-help!
