There are a number of things that need doing, i.e. editing the version number in PDL.pm.PL (if I recall correctly), finalising all other files (release notes etc) and tagging CVS. That needs to be followed by a 'make dist', unpack dist and 'make test'. If all passes it needs to be transferred to the file release area.
This is from memory and I might have missed some steps. Did we ever make a checklist?
