Hello Sai, You are missing the libterm-readline-gnu-perl, g77, libc6-dev, libx11-dev and netpbm packages which you should load with Synaptic Package Manager.
After that, all the recomendations given to you here should work. I have just updated the PDL installation instructions for Ubuntu 7.10 in the Wiki. Please have a look at it in http://wiki.jach.hawaii.edu/pdl_wiki-bin/wiki/Installing_PDL_the_quick_and_easy_way It is now a bit more complicated than for Ubuntu 6.10 because of the missing Debian pgperl package.
