Yes, probably, but it looked like a bizarre typo more than anything
else to me, so I was explaining there was a problem (with my ability
to parse) at this point, rather then just ignoring it.

OK, some hint (markup? <lang...>) would have helped as would a space
before the "l".  I speak no Indian languages at all. <lang="eo">Tri
cent mil</lang> I might have coped with, even without markup. :-)  I
thought this was a really garbled "31??k", or something.  So "can't"
was correct.

Expressing it entirely numerically would have been an option.
