Leave that as it is: I meant creating a meta-package that would pull in all the source header packages necessary to compile PDL from cpan. In other words, a package that would basically do what your deb-src solution does without having to put deb-src in the /etc/apt/sources list. I only suggested it because I'm exceedingly lazy, and because I didn't realize that Debian had a nice way of pulling in a package's build dependencies. Now I know. :)
