Hi again, Henning: Sorry! I got the version numbers wrong, trying to fix this doc. bug in version 4.01 and calling it 4.02! I've since found the real version 4.02 and fixed this bug again. I've just uploaded this to CPAN as version 4.03.
I agree that the PDL doc module should simply strip whitespace off the tags.
