PDL-2.4.3 was released on 20-Aug-2006. It is more than three years and three versions out of date. PDL-2.4.6 and later has *much* better build performance and portability. In particular, the 3D graphics has gotten a major rework going from PDL-2.4.5 to PDL-2.4.6. It might help having better information about being sure to install the latest PDL version and what that might be. At the least, the wiki pages and the PDL README and INSTALL should make that clear. A status check on distributed versions of PDL for various distributions and what is needed to update them could be useful as well.
