Hi Mark, Enterprise versions of Windows is usually the issue when installing
"Non-IT-Supported" applications.

I know that our Enterprise versions of Windows (and any other OS) is always
tweaked. Permissions are different, versions of software don't match such that
we can't always just grab the latest version of XXX off the net and it would
work without hosing up some enterprise interaction - IT then uninstalls the
"rogue version" and reinstalls the corporate version and then it works again.

For all of our network connections that use ports other than 80 (even ftp, sftp
and ssh don't work) we have to use proxies, but only our 2nd level IT knows
this (and the correct proxy addresses) and it is hard to get past 1st level IT
to get them to understand the issue.

When our group first got our new laptops, I could not run any perl script. I
would run command prompts in either user mode or admin mode and the paths were
sufficiently screwed up that either Perl would not run, the script would not
run or it couldn't open the target file. Finally I got through to a third level
IT support person that ran some magic script on my machine and everything
worked. Our group is fairly small so they only had to fix 10 machines - but
what the issue was I have no idea.

The Server version is probably correctly setup for permissions to run Perl user
scripts where as the Win7 is not.

work on my homework in electronic engineering
I will let you know when I have it up and running ...

I would like to use Ubuntu except my Internet connection
would not work, and I couldn't figure out how to check
if the adapters were installed and if the drivers were installed
; even after following the help files ...

Mark,
You have been on this mailing list for years and have seen useful bug reports.
This was not a useful bug report.
What version of PDL were you trying to install? Was it through CPAN or from
source? Did you have all the dependencies installed?
Which brand of Perl? Active Perl? Strawberry? Cygwin? Self-compiled?
Which version of Perl? 5.12? 5.14? 5.16? Bleed?
Which compiler? MS VC? Mingw? Cygwin? gcc?
Have you managed to install other XS-based modules? If so, were they based on
ExtUtils::MakeMaker, Module::Build, or were both successful?
I may be able to get a copy of Windows 7 working shortly, but a few more
details would go a long way in helping diagnose and solve the problem.
