Hi Xiaofang, Pthreads support is built into the ppm packages for PDL available from http://www.sisyphusion.tk/ppmindex.html .
Installing those binaries on ActivePerl-5.16 should be easy if you follow the instructions at: http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/pdl/index.php?title=Installing_PDL_on_Windows Recent versions of Strawberry also have the ppm utilitiy – but I think that Strawberry-5.8.8 does not. This adds a a bit more complexity to installing those binaries – see question 1 at http://www.sisyphusion.tk/faq.html . If you want to build PDL (with pthreads) yourself from source then you need to have a pthreads library against which to build PDL. Let us know if that’s what you want to do, and we’ll try and work out how that might be achieved. Recent versions of Strawberry come with a pthreads library – again, I don’t think it was included with Strawberry-5.8.8. I had pdl installed on two laptops running XP-32bit: 1. Activeperl 5.16 compiled from source using MSVC6.0 2. Strawberry perl 5.8.8 with mingw gcc 3.4.5 >From manuals I learned that PDL can take advantage of mult-core platforms. But these features are not available on both of my XP. So it is possible to enable the pthread feature of PDL on either of the above perl under win32? And how?
