"They (the Indonesian military) must of course contemplate that if that (attacks) were to occur, then that in turn would provoke a much stronger level of intervention and retaliation, including I believe stronger involvement by countries that are now giving important support but not massive support," Howard said in an Australia radio interview. ---------- 2nd wire---------- TIMOR-AUSTRALIA-HOWARD URGENT -2 Howard said he included the United States among the nations likely to react to any Indonesian troop aggression. The United States has committed just 200 support troops to the U.N.-authorised force, expected in East Timor this weekend. Howard said he thought attacks by the Indonesian armed forces (TNI) were unlikely, as Jakarta had been relatively cooperative in initial discussions with their Australian counterparts. "We think that is unlikely. The signs are more that the Indonesian military as such is winding down its involvement," Howard said.
