PRESS RELEASE THE GOVERMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA’S COMMITMENT TO PROTECT FOREIGNERS IN INDONESIA The Government of the Republic of Indonesia has affirmed its commitment to protect and secure the safety of foreigners and will take resolute measures against individuals, or groups whose conduct include that of threatening actions against foreigners in Indonesia, or burning the flags or symbols of other nations, or effigies of their heads of state. This statement was announced in Jakarta on Thursday, October 4, 2001, after a Cabinet meeting led by President Megawati Soekarnoputri. The Government of the Republic of Indonesia also stated Jakarta’s official political position on current and imminent situations related to the terrorist attacks in the United States of America, as follows:
Indonesia as a member state of the United Nation welcomes the adoption of Security Council Resolution 1373 (2001) on terrorism, and is committed to fully implementing its obligations and responsibilities under said Resolution, among others commands freezing without delay funds and other financial assets of persons or entities who commit, participate or facilitate terrorist acts.
